Pregnancy Chiropractic

Woman with hands on pregnant bellyWe want our bodies to function at as high a level as possible at all times. This becomes even more important during pregnancy. While this can be a beautiful time in a woman’s life, it can also have some major discomforts, annoyances and pain along the way.

Morning sickness and back and joint pain can occur throughout the pregnancy. Since pain medications are not advised during this time, chiropractic treatment is a great option. Chiropractic is completely safe, effective, gentle and totally all natural.

What is Pregnancy Chiropractic?

During pregnancy, a woman’s body produces the hormone Relaxin. In the last trimester, it loosens the ligaments surrounding the pelvis to make delivery easier. Since these same ligaments provide support, misalignments can occur.

Chiropractic adjustment ensures everything is properly aligned and functioning. Better pelvis and spine movement make the labor and delivery process shorter and less painful. Making sure the mom-to-be is comfortable and pain-free is good for her and the baby.

What to Expect

As with any patient, Dr. Goyke will go through the new patient intake process to obtain the information he needs to put together your care plan. He’ll take a complete health history, perform a physical examination and any necessary tests. He’ll discuss your current issues and what your goals are for the pregnancy.

After he has reviewed this information, he’ll go over the results with you and give you his recommendations for care. You’ll also receive your first adjustment at this time. Extremely gentle, it can relieve some of the pain and pressure you’re experiencing. We can also give you advice on proper nutrition, ergonomics and safety measures that are important during pregnancy.

Postpartum Care

After delivery, changes in your pelvis can make walking, sitting and sleeping uncomfortable. Add in the new stresses of picking up and carrying your new baby and the loaded diaper bag that goes along it. No wonder you hurt!

It’s important to treat any problems prior to your ligaments tightening back to their pre-pregnancy state. This can help prevent muscle tension, headaches, rib discomfort and shoulder problems.
