Pediatric Sports Chiropractic
Kids today are more active than ever, and all that activity takes a toll on their bodies. At Goyke Health Center, we specialize in treating child athletes so their training and competition can benefit their growth and development, rather than impairing it.
Contributors to Injury
One of the biggest factors we see in child athletes’ injuries is overtraining without sufficient rest or stretching. Many kids play multiple sports with overlapping seasons, so they have no off-season in which to allow their bodies to recuperate.
While there’s a benefit to playing more than one sport – different muscle groups are trained, allowing for better overall development—the absence of a sufficient rest period between seasons increases the likelihood of injury. In addition, there is often a lack of focus on the importance of properly stretching to keep the muscles limber.
It’s not just the overlapping seasons that tax kids’ bodies. Many children practice five or more hours a day, five to six days a week. This amount of training is very hard on the body and leads to overuse injuries.
Unfortunately, we can’t put more hours in the day to give child athletes the rest their bodies need to recover. What we can do is help support their bodies with regular chiropractic and physiotherapy care, to facilitate recovery and allow their bodies to function optimally.
We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. Whatever sport your child is currently playing and whatever their age, Dr. Goyke will tailor treatment and education to their specific needs and goals. If they’ve been injured, he’ll not only treat the injury, but he’ll also help your child regain their mobility and their form.
People often think football is the most injury-prone sport, but we treat younger athletes from a variety of sports besides just football! A few of those are
- Lacrosse
- Baseball
- Cheerleading
- Gymnastics
We treat athletes from the local high schools—Geneva, Batavia, St. Charles and Elgin. We also treat a number of middle school athletes. Making chiropractic care a regular part of a child athlete’s training regimen can help them remain injury-free, and help support their bodies through the demands of the sport from the outset. Older kids (and adults) have sometimes had years of incorrect training or compensation for injuries that take much longer for us to correct.
Get Started Now
Kids’ bodies adapt and recover more quickly than adults, so treating an injury right away can prevent long-term consequences. Better still, treating them before they’re injured can help them develop—and compete—at their optimal level. Contact us today to book an appointment for your young athlete.
